Treatment Approach: CyberKnife as a Boost to Chemotherapy

As cancer care evolves, doctors are combining the use of traditional treatment options with more recent methods to reduce overall treatment time, side effects and improve quality of life for patients.

This strategy has become particularly important for patients undergoing chemotherapy. Physicians often turn to chemotherapy when a patient’s cancer cells are found to have spread throughout the body or in the blood, but side effects can be debilitating. Patients receiving this type of treatment can experience a number of side effects including nausea, hair loss or extreme fatigue.

In some cases physicians may pair chemotherapy with radiation therapy treatments or stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). SRS precisely targets metastatic tumors with high dose radiation – with few to no side effects andÊ may be given as a prescribed treatment plan between chemotherapy treatments.

Illinois CyberKnife uses CyberKnife® technology to deliver SRS to tumors throughout the body. Contact us to find out if CyberKnife may be a fit for your treatment plan.
