Patient Safety Awareness Week: CyberKnife safety and quality measures

This week is Patient Safety Awareness Week. Hosted by the National Patient Safety Foundation, the week focuses on education and awareness of health care safety.

The organization hosts webinars, programs and events for patients and health care professionals highlighting every aspect of patient safety from alarm system management to free reading materials.

Our center is dedicated to providing a safe treatment experience for all of our patients and an integral part of this is our medical physicist. The medical physicist works closely with other members of the treatment team to determine the angles and intensities of the CyberKnife® radiation beams delivered as part of a patient’s customized treatment plan.

Patients receive stereotactic radiosurgery in a CyberKnife treatment room that is custom designed to meet industry guidelines. To protect the patient and treatment staff from radiation exposure, the room is constructed with concrete and lead walls. Patients are able to maintain visual and verbal communication with our staff throughout treatment for comfort and safety.
