Illinois CyberKnife Celebrates Three Years of Cancer Care

This month marks three years of cancer care at Illinois CyberKnife as a partner of Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Since opening in 2011, our center has offered stereotactic radiosurgery to treat patients with benign and malignant tumors while contributing to the growing body of clinical research supporting CyberKnife®. Below are a few highlights from the past year:

  • Conditions most often treated in the last year include lung and brain tumors. CyberKnife is also used to treat the painful nerve disorder trigeminal neuralgia.
  • Our center launched a liver study protocol to examine and treat liver metastasis patients with a combination of CyberKnife stereotactic body radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
  • We were able to make CyberKnife treatment for prostate cancer more accessible as Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois announced an updated policy to begin providing coverage of stereotactic body radiation therapy for prostate cancer.
  • Advocate Lutheran General Hospital ranked third in the state for patient satisfaction.
