A Simple Screening May Save Your Life

According to the American Cancer Society, lung cancer is the third most common cancer and the number one cancer killer for both men and women in the United States.  Each year, more people die of lung cancer than of colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined.

Even with these high statistics, we are at a pivotal moment in the prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer.  Recommended lung screening for high risk patients, advancement in diagnostic bronchoscopy and advances in treatment, including stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), is changing the prognosis for patients.

Since November is National Lung Cancer Awareness Month, we wanted to share a story that was posted on Advocate Health Care’s health enews website about an Illinois Cyberknife lung cancer patient who benefitted from all of the latest advancements in cancer care diagnosis and treatment.
